How do I apply for a review of my property assessment or abatement of my property tax?

Following receipt of your tax bill in December, if you have evidence that your property is inequitably assessed - that is that your property's assessment is disproportionately higher than that of similar properties here in Kingston - you may request from the Selectmen's Office an Application for Abatement.  Fill out the application with all of the information that leads you to believe there's been an error in your assessment, and submit it along with copies of the evidence prior to March 1st.  If your application is denied by the Selectmen, you have the option to appeal the denial to the state Board of Tax and Land Appeals.  It is recommended that you pay your tax bill promptly to avoid accumulation of interest.  If it's determined that you're entitled to an abatement and you've already paid your taxes, you'll receive a refund of the overpayment amount.
