To Kingston Taxpayers:
As folks are starting to get their new assessed value letters about their homes, I’m sure they’re going to be a lot of questions and people that may panic.
We are attaching a PDF of an article that was released by the New Hampshire Department of Revenue a couple of years ago that explains the relationship between assessed value and how tax rates are set. (See article HERE.)
For example, this week I received my new assessed value on my home in the mail and it has gone up about 60%, that does not mean I am going to have a 60% increase in my taxes when the town sets the new tax rate it takes into consideration a lot of factors in conjunction with the New Hampshire department of revenue, so please do not think that your taxes are almost doubling or increasing at all. If you have any questions about your assessment, please reach out to the contact provided on the notice.
Thank you,
Chris Bashaw, Kingston Select Board Chair
*** OVERALL AVERAGE INCREASE FOR THE TOWN (preliminary values) was 57% ***
Bids are being solicited by the Town for the 5-year Assessing Contract, to begin in 2024.
