The Kingston Historical Museum was founded in 1969 in support of the 275th anniversary of the founding of Kingston.  Today the Museum is headquartered in the Nichols Memorial Library.

The Historical Museum Committee manages the museum’s budget and establishes the policies and procedures for the museum. The day to day operations of the museum are managed by a group of dedicated volunteers who make up the Friends of the Historical Museum Association, Inc.  The Friends are a 501(C)(3) organization who raise money and volunteer their time and skills to improve the Museum's operations and educational programs.
